Install windows xp on toshiba nb305

Being that it is an old display, even if it was on but all black, it would still look fairly grey so I can be certain that it is not even on. The power button lights up, the system fan turns on (loudly, then it spins down to a normal speed), and the HDD light on the system blinks once. If I am not plugged in, opening the lid has no effect, but pressing any key or the power button causes the device to wake. If I am plugged in, opening the lid causes the device to wake up. When CloudReady is booted up and I am signed in, closing the lid causes the system to sleep (suspend to RAM and not to disc, I assume). When CloudReady is booted up (I am not running dual boot, just CloudReady) but I have yet to log in, closing the lid causes the whole system to shut down. The netbook used to run Windows (XP and then 7) and did not have these issues.

I suppose it is an issue with the way Linux handles waking the display, or possibly just the way my device seems to respond to it. Before I describe the issues in more detail, I would like to note that this issue has happened in the same form on every other Linux distro I've loaded onto the machine. I have a Toshiba NB305 netbook (lastest BIOS as of ) that seems to run CloudReady well enough to be functional, but has the unfortunate problem of being unable to properly wake from sleep.
